Evens Foundation, who is a partner of Difference Day and our Bozar Think Tank debates, organizes this Monday a Lecture with Michael Ignatieff on Democracy in Europe.

The Evens Foundation invites you to its very first Evens Lecture, for which we are honoured to welcome Professor Michael Ignatieff, Rector and President of the Central European University in Budapest, as our speaker.

Michael Ignatieff will talk about Academic Freedom and Democracy in Europe.

The lecture will take place on Monday September 24 at 18h30, in the Centre for Fine Arts BOZAR, Ravensteinstraat 23, Brussels.

About Michael Ignatieff

Michael Ignatieff is the Rector and President of the Central European University in Budapest. An international commentator on contemporary issues of democracy, human rights, and governance, Ignatieff is also an award-winning writer, teacher, former politician, and historian with a deep knowledge of Central and Eastern Europe. Ignatieff was born in Canada, and educated at the University of Toronto and Harvard.

His former appointments include Edward R. Murrow Chair of the Press, Politics and Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School, Centennial Chair at the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs in New York, and as a Member of the Parliament of Canada and then as Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada and Leader of the Official Opposition. He is a member of the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada and holds twelve honorary degrees.

His major publications are The Needs of Strangers (1984), Scar Tissue (1992), Isaiah Berlin (1998), The Rights Revolution (2000), Human Rights as Politics and Idolatry (2001), The Lesser Evil: Political Ethics in an Age of Terror (2004), Fire and Ashes: Success and Failure in Politics (2013), and The Ordinary Virtues: Moral Order in a Divided World (2017).

About the Evens Lecture Series

The Evens Lecture Series is a new Evens Foundation initiative, established to strengthen our commitment as an active contributor to the quality of the public debate on pressing issues of our times. Renowned speakers from different backgrounds will be asked to reflect on the core topics in the Foundation’s new strategic plan, starting form their own background and expertise. This lecture will be the first of many, and we hope to count on your presence for the launch of this new initiative.
